Background and Aim: Sports organizations define capacity building in their manner. Focusing on capacity building, is more important than improving development methods, especially in developing countries. Identification and measurement of organizational capacity are used to meet the capacity needs of the organization and to adopt appropriate actions and responses in the field of environmental forces and organizational resources. The current study aimed to identify the effective factors of capacity building of national sports organizations in Iran.
Methodology: The present study was applicable in terms of purpose and descriptive-survey in terms of research strategy. The statistical population included all presidents or senior managers and vice presidents or deputies in national sports organizations, including the Ministry of Sports, selected international sports federations, and the National Olympic Committee. Due to the limited statistical population, the purposive sampling method was used. In regards to data collection, the standard capacity building questionnaire (Doherty and Misener, 2016) was used. The face and content validity of this research tool was confirmed by professors and academic experts. The reliability coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) of each of the research indicators was above 0.7, which indicates the acceptable reliability of the questionnaires used. Data analysis was conducted by the use of descriptive statistics (frequency tables and graphs) and inferential statistics of (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and one-sample t-test) were used.
Results: The results indicated that there is a significant difference between the observed average and the optimal average (basis) in organizational readiness, capacity needs, existing capacity, and capacity building outcome at a level less than 0.01. In all components of capacity building of national sports organizations, the observed averages are higher than the proposed optimal average; therefore, it can be deducted that in terms of research examples, these factors are acceptable as capacity building of Iranian national sports organizations.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that organizational capacity building is a multidimensional issue and understanding and exploring these dimensions is the basic need of national sports organizations in Iran. Accurate identification of the dimensions of capacity building can facilitate the next steps of the capacity building process.
