Corona Virus Pandemic and Stress Management and Controlling Strategies among Athletes of Various Levels

Abstract
Introduction: Severe Respiratory Syndrome known as Corona (Covid-19) was reported in Iran in the end of 1399 and was spreading widely all over the country. After announcing widespread dispersal, the very strict rules of quarantine had a great impact on people's life style and anxiety made by the current situation put plenty of stress on public (1,2,3). In this condition, controlling and managing stress could make physical and emotional changes which naturally reduces stressed and tense situations (4, 5). Since managing stress is of great importance for athletes, thus the current study aims at investigating different strategies used by students to control their stress in this Corona virus pandemic.
Methodology: The research method is applied and descriptive, which was done cross-sectional. The statistical population included students of Tehran province who according to Cochran's formula 384 people, as a statistical sample and in multi-stage clusters, answered the Stress Management and Controlling Strategies Questionnaire of Naziri (2014) with had acceptable validity and reliability. To analyze the data, two descriptive and inferential statistics including Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Independent T-Test and analysis of Variance were used.
Results: Results showed a significant difference in different levels of athletes considering managing stress variable and it also revealed professional athletes or national athletes have got higher scores comparing non-athlete students. There also was no difference among male and female students.
Discussion and Conclusion: The results of this study confirmed that exercise with its physical and psychological effects can help a person in controlling critical and stressful situations and increase the health and well-being of society.
