Abstract
Many skeletal muscle injuries are caused by the imbalance among different muscle sections and the inefficiency of muscle function . The treatment of these injures is optimize muscle strength and correct imbalance in the muscles. The purpose of this study was the use of upgraded electromyographic biofeedback software in selective muscle activation.
In this experimental study, 22 participants were voluntarily participated. All of them were exposed to patellofemoral pain syndrome and they were randomly classified in two groups: each group had 11 participants. Initially the Electromyography Biofeedback software program was upgraded then Muscle activity was measured by electromyography and Q angle measured by clinical evaluation. The first group used the selective muscle activation training for establish and maintain muscle balance with upgraded the Electromyography Biofeedback software and the second group used common training in rehabilitation programs in strengthening of muscle. Independent t test and paired t-tests were used for the data analysis.
The results showed there was a significant decrease in Q angle in both groups and there was a significant difference in intergroup study. Also, there was a significant difference only in the first group in VMO / VL ratio .(p<.05)
The findings showed more efficacy in training with the upgraded Electromyography Biofeedback software. This software can be used as a relatively new tool in eliminating muscle dysfunction and restoring muscle balance in a rehabilitation program.
