Abstract
Sport orientation depends on individual’ effort to overcome a problem, acquisition of skills, and better performance than others. Since, orientation in sports especially in team sports is affected by personality traits of athletes including perfectionism and coping strategies, therefore this study aimed to determine the relationship of sport orientation with coping strategies of stress and perfectionism among selected female of Futsal field of Khomeini shahr province.
The research method is descriptive of correlation. The sample is consisted of 120 female of Futsal that they were selected by Morgan Table. Data were gathered by questionnaires of sport orientation (SOQ), coping strategies of stress (CSQ), and perfectionism (FMPS); and data were analyzed by Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression.
Analyses of data show that there is a positive and meaningful relationship between sport orientation and coping strategies of stress. Also, among variables of coping strategies of stress, only three characteristics such as problem-solving, revaluation, and avoiding can predict sport orientation that according to the regression coefficient values (β) in terms of predictability, problem-solving component (β=0.650,P≤0.001) has greater ability to predict sport orientation. Other findings show that perfectionism has positive and meaningful relationship with sport orientation components. Also, among perfectionism variables only four features of perfectionism and concern about mistakes and parental expectations and organization can predict sport orientation that according to the regression coefficient values (β) in terms of predictability, perfectionism component (β=0.620, P≤0.001) has greater ability to predict sport orientation.
The results of this study suggest that sport psychologists with a focus on strategies adopted by individuals can help athletes in their orientation. On the other hand, if the sport psychologists face athletes with perfectionist personality, they can improve athletes’ bias in the sports. Among the possible actions for these athletes, goal setting is connected to their perfectionist personality.
