Abstract
Determining appropriate norms of body-fat-percentage (%BF) and somatotype could be a guideline for young wrestlers and their coaches. The aim of this study was to determine the %BF and somatotype characteristics in Juybars’ young man wrestlers and compare their results to elite wrestlers’ norm previously calculated by Jafari et al,(2015).
Fourteen young man wrestlers (average age of 17.47 (1.07) years; height of 172 (3.97) cm; weight of 66 (7) kg) were selected. All subjects were assessed for stature, body mass, skinfold thickness, breadths, and girths. Somatotype and %BF were calculated using Heath Carter and 7-skinfold method, respectively. One-sample t-test was used to compare young wrestlers’ Somatotype and %BF with elite ones.
Mean (SD) of %BF, endomorphy, mesomorphy, and ectomorphy were 15.65 (1.8)%, 4.87 (0.48), 5.37 (1.1), and 0.1 (0), respectively. In the young wrestlers, %BF and endomorphy scores were significantly greater (4.75% and 22% respectively) while ectomorphy score was significantly lower (30%) than elite ones (the mean (SD) %BF, endomorphy, mesomorphy, and ectomorphy of elite norm were 10.90 (1.64) %, 2.16 (0.46), 5.20 (0.77), and 2.88 (0.64), respectively). No significant differences were observed in the mesomorph’s scores between the two groups.
Providing a somatotype profile and body fat determination could show wrestlers' physical capacities in comparison to elite ones. These results could show strengths and weaknesses of wrestlers’ physical capacities in performing skill movements. Juybar's wrestlers showed mesomorphic scores at the elite level, on the other hand they showed higher %BF and endomorphic scores .therefore, conditioning fat burning programs it suggested for them
