Abstract
Life skill is defined as the physical, cognitive and behavioral skills that deal with the demands in everyday life.
The purpose of this study was to compare the life skills in sport elites Athletes with and without university education in Shiraz.
The research method was causal-comparative. The statistical society included all the athletes with and without university education who were engaged in professional sports in the city of Shiraz in the academic year of 2018. The sample size of this study was 140 people (75 athletes with academic education and 65 athletes without university education) who were selected by available method from Shiraz. To measure the level of life skills, Najafi questionnaire (2011) was used to assess the life skills scale. The collected data were analyzed using independent t-test for total score of life skills and multivariate analysis of variance for life skills subscales.
The results showed that there was no significant difference in total score of life skills in athletes with and without university education (p>0.05). Also in subscales, there was a significant difference between athletes with and without university education in decision making skills, coping with emotions and interpersonal relationships (p <0.05). It means that decision-making skills and coping with emotions among sports elites with university education are better than non-university athletes but the interpersonal relationships skill of athletes without academic education is better than athletes with academic education.
According to the findings of the research, it is suggested that the officials and carers of sports and youth and the organization of the system of psychology and counseling take the necessary measures to plan and improve the decision-making skills and coping with the emotions of athletes without academic education and interpersonal skills of athletes with university education.
