Abstract
An excellent health is essential for high performance levels in sport. An athlete’s health is at high risk. Elite athletes are confronted with numerous sports-specific stressors such as physical demands for competitions and injuries management. Therefore, being healthy need a huge challenge.
The aim of this study was to The Role of University Education On Public Health in Elite Athletes.
The method of this descriptive study was causal-comparative. The statistical society included all the athletes with and without university education who were engaged in professional sports in the city of Shiraz in the year of 2018. In addition, the sample size of this study was 140 people (75 athlete’s students with academic education and 65 without university education) who were selected by available method from the city of Shiraz. In order to measure the public health of the general health scale, Goldberg's 28 questioners (1978) were used. The collected data were analyzed using independent t-test for public health and multivariate analysis of variance for general health subscales.
The results showed that there was no significant difference between athletes with and without university education (P> 0.05) and in subscales, there was a significant difference between depression among athletes with and without university education (P< 0.05). Therefore, depression was more common among non-university-educated athletes than the athletes with university education.
According to the findings of the study, it is recommended to the officials and careers of sports and youth and the organization of psychology and counseling system policy to take the necessary measures and have a plan to prevent depression of athletes without university education.
