Self-esteem has been discussed in the scientific context for more than a century. Self-esteem is the set of feedbacks and beliefs people express in their relationships with the outside world. There are many factors that can affect and increase self-esteem. One of these factors is physical activity. Physical activity includes any type of activity, including home exercise, etc., defined by the musculoskeletal system and requires energy. Unfortunately, participation in sports and physical activity declines during adolescence, while adolescent girls' physical activity is significantly lower than adolescent boys.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and physical activity in high school girl students.
The research method was correlational in which 100 girl participants of the present study were randomly selected from high school student in Tabriz city. Participants completed research questionnaire package including physical activity questionnaire for adolescent and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used for data analysis.
After collecting the questionnaires, the results showed that there was significant relationship between the components of physical activity and self-esteem. So it can be concluded that low self-esteem leads to social anxiety among adolescent girls. Therefore, it can be concluded that physical activity increases self-esteem in female students.
Self-esteem is the belief that one has about one's value and importance The self-esteem of the central system is the meaning that the individual attaches to himself or herself in relation to the world around them, including the belief system of one's attitudes and commitments in life. Physical activity is an activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness, wellness and overall health. It is also called exercise, but it should be noted that it is different because exercise is necessarily done with a specific purpose. In fact, inactivity in adolescents can have many physical and psychological effects. One of the psychological consequences of inactivity is the gradual decline in self-esteem.
