Abstract
Sport psychologists and anxiety researchers seek to find appropriate ways to improve performance and reduce anxiety. Athletes are in situations that constantly are judged by them and others. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the team cohesion and self- presentation in Iran women’s super league volleyball players. Our sample consist of 120 women elite volleyball players of Tehran. Group environment questionnaire by Karen Wade Mayer & Brawley (1985) and self- presentation in sport questionnaire by McGowan, Prausis & Wesch (2008) were used in this study. Statistical methods including Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, t-test, Pearson correlation, Regression and structure factor analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of inferential statistics showed that team cohesion and self- presentation are in good condition in the women’s super league volleyball players with 95% of confidence. The results of Pearson correlation coefficient showed significant negative relationships between team cohesion and self- presentation, individual action toward the group in terms of duty and self- presentation, individual action toward the group sociality and self- presentation, integrity of the group on task and self- presentation, and integrity of the group in duty with self- presentation in volleyball player women in the super league. Also, multiple linear regression results showed that none of the predictor variables were able to predict self- presentation in volleyball players. Therefore, factors and variables are suggested to play a role in reducing self- presentation. Team cohesion is considered as one of these factors based on the evidence of present study.
