The Relationship between Fatigue with Physical Activity levels and Nutritional status in Elderly living in rest homes of Tehran

Abstract
Studies show that about half of seniors around the world have feeling fatigue most of the times. It seems that, exercise and proper diet are important factors to maintain energy levels and preventing sedentary behaviors in these subjects.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between fatigue and physical activity level and nutritional status in the elderly living in Tehran`s nursing home.
This study was descriptive accompanied by questionnaires. The study subjects were consisted of 121 residents suffering from dementia with the age of 73.86±8.92 years’ old that were chosen from different nursing homes in Tehran. Demographic data were collected and anthropometric measurements such as height, weight and BMI were taken and recorded.. Also systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured and recorded via a blood pressure gauge(M2 Omron model). In order to measure the amount of Fatigue, physical activity level and nutritional status, Facit-f, PASE (Physical Activity for Elderly) and MMSE (Mini- Mental State Examination) questionnaires were utilized, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 21 , at significant level of 0.05.
In the current study there was an inverse and significant relationship between physical activity level and nutritional status with fatigue. Also, there was an inverse correlation between BMI and fatigue.
According to the results of this study, it can be stated that routine exercise and well nutritional status are the crucial factors of quality of life and reduction of medical care costs and aged-related diseases.
