Evaluation and Prioritization of Factors Influencing the Performance of Selected Iranian Sports Caravan Teams at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics

Abstract
The success in international sporting events that are the main focus of many countries is an opportunity to evaluate a country's sport performance. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate and prioritize the factors influencing the performance of selected Iranian sports caravan teams in the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. To achieve this practical purpose, a survey method was used. A researcher-made questionnaire consisting of 32 items on a five-point Likert scale whose face and content validity was confirmed by 14 academic experts and its reliability was calculated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.819. The questionnaire was given to the Officials of the federations, Sports coaches and experts of wrestling, fencing and cycling in metropolis of Tehran. The results of this study showed that cycling team in 2016 Olympic Games has lower than average performance, wrestling team has average performance, and finally cycling team has above average. It is worth noting that factors such as inadequate rewards for coaches and athletes, disregard for salaries of members and staff, problems related to the provision of sports teams, lack of follow-up and attention to the construction of sports facilities and equipment, poor refereeing status during competitions, and lack of various committees to deal with the problems of federations, coaches and athletes were identified as the most important negative factors affecting the performance of athletes. Also the desired physical, mental and psychological fitness of athletes, acceptable quality of national sports competitions, multiplicity of preparatory competitions, selection of qualified and distinguished coaches with academic qualifications, setting of regulations in accordance with the latest rules of International Federation of Athletes, desired preparation of athletes, preparation of books, pamphlets and educational posters in the field of sport and action to appoint members in accordance with the structure envisaged in the Statute were considered as the most important positive factors that affecting the performance of athletes. It is hoped that the findings of this study will be effective in designing of macro-planning for future Olympics.
