Abstract
According to Kohlberg ethics is one of the most important factors in human mental and psychological development, and the purpose of training moral standards is to bring one's talents for providing opportunities to use moral judgement in controlling his behavior. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between moral judgment and dark triad among athletes.
The research method was correlational in which 120 male participants of the present study were randomly selected from university student athletes in northwest of Iran. Participants completed research questionnaire package including Dark triad personality test (by John and Webster, 2010) and moral judgment in sport. Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression.
The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between moral judgments and narcissism with normative order, selfish, social, concerted execution consequences. There was also a significant negative relationship between psychopathy with justice and the consequences of concurrent enforcement and a significant negative relationship with Machiavellianism with justice. The results of the regression model showed that the components of moral judgments are capable of predicting Machiavellianism personality traits. The justice with a beta coefficient of -0.212 predicted only about 3% of this personality trait. The results of the regression model showed that the components of moral judgments were able to predict personality traits of psychopathy. So that justice component of moral judgement with a beta coefficient of -0.198 predicted only about 3% of this personality trait. The results of the regression model showed that the components of moral judgments were capable of predicting narcissism personality traits. So that the components of normative order and the consequences harmonic performance with the beta coefficient of 0.222 and 0.173 respectively predicted about 9% of this personality trait.
Results were interpreted using psychopathic personality traits and its’s related behaviors such as impulsivity and violation, resilience to anxiety, absence of irrational thinking, and rare instances of suicidality.
