Abstract
Functional performance is the one of most important factors in sport performance as well as prevention of sport related injuries in all sports including Karate. So coach and athletes always are seeking for approaches that can improve functional performance indexes like hopping tests, as soon as possible.
It is assume core stability exercise and pre-event sport massage can improve above mentioned factors in short and long time. So the aim of this study is investigation effect of one session core stability exercise and pre-event sport massage and combination of these protocols on single leg hopping tests in Iranian elite women karate player.
Research population consist of all women karate players age 18-30 years old, that had presence history in national primer karate league in last 3 years. From this community based on inclusion and exclusion criteria 60 participant selected and randomly divided to sport massage group (N=15), core stability exercise group (N=15), mixed group (N=15) and control group(N=15). In the pretest hopping performance was tested in: Triple Hop and Figure-eight Hop tests. Then in post-test massage group received one session of sport massage, core stability group performed a one session of core stability exercise and mixed group performed both of this intervention and control group didn’t receive any intervention then immediately after receive interventions performance test was taken from all groups. Descriptive and Inferential statistical methods (paired t-test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used to analyze the data.
Results indicated that participant in all three intervention groups showed significant improvement in performance test (P=0.001). Also between effect of three interventions significant difference was found so that the most improvement was fond in Mixed group, Massage group and Core stability exercise group respectively.
Apply of any kind of interventions (sport massage core stability exercise mixed intervention) can be effective in immediately improving of functional performance in women elite karate players. Most effective method was mixed intervention so apply of this intervention have preferences relative other interventions.
