Abstract
Generally, most athletes have ideal physical fitness when participate in major sports competitions, and their success or failure in major sports competitions largely depends on their mental preparation and how they could deal with performance anxiety.
The aim of present study was to investigate the effectiveness of aromatherapy on competitive anxiety and self-confidence level of futsal female players.
This semi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test was conducted among 30 futsal women players. Two teams were selected randomly as a control and experimental group. The experimental group inhaled the essential oil of orange for 16 sessions (8 weeks, 2 sessions of 10 minutes per week) at the time of team practice according to the instructions. Martens State-Competitive Anxiety (SCAT-2) Questionnaire was used to evaluate the research variables. After collecting data and investigated their normality by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, t-test was used to analyzed our hypothesis at the significant level (P <0.05) in SPSS 25 software to determine the mean difference between groups. All of data collected during competitive session.
The results showed that the mean score of players in cognitive anxiety, physical anxiety and in self-confidence dimensions respectively was changed from 13/80 to 10.80, 13 to 10/60 and 19/90 to 23/30 during pre-test to post-test.
According to this result, it’s clear that Aromatherapy method in general and essential oil of orange in particular had a positive effect on decreased the total score of state-competitive anxiety among athletics, in addition to that, it caused increasing in their self-confidence factor.
