Abstract
given that the physical properties (body type) its varies from person to person, the ground reaction force can also be affected by the physical properties of the body, so the purpose of this study was to compare the ground reaction force, time to peak, and loading rate of forces during gait with the focus on body type.
18 male students were selected as the subjects of the study and they were placed into three groups: the endomorph with mean and standard deviation of 26.1±2.5 years old, 185.5±6.56 centimeters, and 99.83±14.30 kg, the mesomorph with mean and standard deviation of 26.3±2.7 years old, 179.83±11.14 centimeters, and 84.33±10.26 kg, and the ectomorph with mean and standard deviation of 24.3±2.7 years old, 183.0±6.09 centimeters, and 63.16±6.27 kg. The ground reaction forces were recorded during gait by the Kistler Force Plate. The mean and the standard deviation were used for description of the data and ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey were utilized for comparison between three body types at the significance level of P<0.05.
Results showed no significant difference between the body types at the heel contact and mead stance in the vertical and anterior-posterior component but this difference was significant at the toe off in the vertical component of ground reaction force. Also the magnitude of force except at heel contact in the anterior-posterior component that was greater in the ectomorphic body type, it was seen greater in all cases for the mesomorphic body type. Results showed that there was no significant difference between body types at the time to peak, but the time to peak in vertical and anterior-posterior component was higher for endomorphic body type and was lower for mesomorphic body type. There was no significant difference in loading rate between body types, but this rate was higher for mesomorphic body type and was lower for endomorphic body type, respectively.
According to the results, it seems that the ground reaction forces in the vertical and anterior posterior components, time to peak and the loading rate, it varies according to different body types.
