Abstract
Evidence showed that static stretching exercises have been used to improve joint range of motion. But they have temporarily reduced balance and the aim of the study was that whether the eight weeks PNF stretching exercises manner in C.R.A.C has the opposite effect on static and dynamic balance of 17-22 years young girls.
Twenty two 17-22 years old athletic girls (trained the fitness exercises) without any history of pathology in hip, knee or back were selected purposefully and available. They were divided into two groups with 11 girls in each group (experimental and control). The experimental group were received combination of fitness exercises and PNF stretching exercises manner in C.R.A.C based on overload principle for 8 weeks, 3 sessions per week (3 sets of 15 second) and rest 10 second. The control group were received fitness exercises. The static balance was measured by Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) in six positions. The dynamic balance was assessed by Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). Independent t-test and dependent t-test were used for the statistical analysis (p<0/05).
%42 increasing was showed in total static balance experimental group (p<0/0001). There was significant difference between experimented and control groups in 4 positions of static balance except in 2 position (double feet standing and tandem standing on soft surface) (p<0/04). In addition, there was significant difference between experimental and control group in the all dynamic balance parameters (p<0/03) except in internal-posterior direction.
As a whole, PNF stretching exercise manner in C.R.A.C improved static and dynamic balance. Physiological mechanism of the PNF stretching exercises focus on the proprioceptive receptors. The exercises improve performance of proprioceptive receptors and they have the less effect on the balance disruption.
